ArtTech - The Marriage of Art & Technology

Following yesterday’s discussion of Hugo’s mist maker, here is a photo of the installation in New Zealand (Christchurch, not Wellington). I don’t know if it is still there because the photo was taken before the earthquake.

I think a spray, rather than a mist, (and a lot of luck, care with the source of light) is needed to make an artificial rainbow. But mist has its place in artistic creations, and one looks for more “natural” (and cheaper) water-based generation of mist rather than the dry-ice or liquid nitrogen-based technology used in theatres. Amazon have products, e.g. Ginobili 5Pcs 16MM 20MM 1.5-2W Ultrasonic Mist Maker Atomizer Transducer Atomizer Film Plate Accessories Humidifier Rubber Gasket : Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools

Anyone want to collaborate with me on developing these ideas?

A bow’s appearance depends on drop size. The best are narrow ones with intense colours and these are made by large drops several mm in diameter. Look for them during very heavy showers. Smaller drops produce broader bows with less saturated colours. Very small drops give nearly colourless cloudbows and fogbows.
