Introduce Yourself (2026)

Let’s see if we can say a little about ourselves - I know we each have a variety of interests.

Feel free to mention any accidents with filament spaghetti, soldering irons, null pointers, interrupt service routines, sharp-edged cabinets, heavy power supplies.

I’ll go first - should be easy as I can quote a previous post:

Hi, I’m PJ. I am more of an analogue type. I am OK with most common computer apps but find the proliferation of apps that ‘help’ us communicate and plan out time and work schedules confusing and not much use. For instance I have to thank Ed for posting the link to this thread as I never seem to find anything on this forum… so I only use these assistant apps when I have to. As for coding and backend alchemy I am at a complete loss, but time has been my ally and AI is increasingly able to help me should the occasion arise. Also I have not been to a Tech Shed meeting for months, mainly due to other pressures on my time. But I try to keep up with what’s going on. When not actively earning a living, I help out on a farm, have a small excavator and have discovered a surprising number people I know who want a bit of digging done, and have recently bought a small wood and a share in a mobile sawmill to turn Norway spruce into useful timber (and will restock with native broadleaf - but that’s another story) The rest of my time seems to be taken up repairing a wide range of things in the home workshop or Share Repair Cafe. I am currently in Copenhagen helping sell stupidly expensive cosmetics to a population that, on the whole, seems to need no help looking good. But who am I to judge

Hello, I’m Martin. Moved to Frome about a year ago, upgrading from a decade in Andover.

Professionally, I’m an embedded software engineer (soon to be renamed to “senior AI tickler” with the way things are going), working in C and C++, which I’ve been doing for about 13 years. I also sometimes pretend I know what to do with electronics and commit hideous atrocities with a soldering iron.

I also have an extensive list of home projects that are all somewhere between half-done and barely started. Board games, video games, apps, robots, I’ve had half-arsed plans for all.

Howdy, I’m Lawrence. I’m not a technical person at all, but I’ve always been curious about technology, particularly privacy and how I can keep some control over my own and my family’s life online.

Outside of tech, I’m a bit of an enemy of landfill and have a hard time throwing anything away if I think it might still have a use, or could be passed on to someone or an organisation that could make use of it. I like to think of myself as the all seeing eye of recycling (especially books). I care a lot about the environment and enjoy getting involved in things that help the local community.

I originally thought I’d just come along for one session back in 2019. That session rather changed my opinion of tech nerds, and eight plus years later, I’m still here.
